Getting There

Ok, so here it is….the first article on my new website alexisschmidt.com. Before I start to report about where you can eat well, where you can get tasty apple wine, where it is nice to shop, etc, etc, etc, it has to be clear how to get to Frankfurt at all.

Of course there are several possibilities to visit Frankfurt am Main.

Arrival with your own car

Ok, I don’t want to go into details here. As you know, most people have a navigation device, or smartphone. So just enter the destination in your navigation device or smartphone and drive off. If no Navi or telephone available: Frankfurt is located on the A5, A3, A66 and A661 and can therefore be easily reached by car from all directions. Hotels should be booked before arrival. There is an acute shortage of parking space in Frankfurt, so you should either book a hotel with available parking spaces or a hotel that is not located in the city centre or in the railway station district. The traffic connection is good in Frankfurt and who stays a few days should look for a hotel in the districts Bockenheim, Griesheim, Rödelheim, Hausen, Ginnheim or Dornbusch. From there you can easily get into the city by tram, subway or suburban train and avoid searching for parking spaces for hours.

Travelling by train

Frankfurt Central Station is very centrally located. It only takes about 20 minutes on foot to get to the city centre. The Main river is only about 10 minutes away.
In addition to long-distance trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and tram also run through Frankfurt main station. Personally, I would prefer to travel by train rather than by car, as there are many hotels and hostels near the station. A group day ticket for within Frankfurt currently costs €11.30. With it, you can travel the whole day with 5 people as often as you like by subway, S-Bahn and tram. This is cheaper than parking and much more relaxed.

Arrival by plane

106 Airlines carry up to 240,000 passengers a day at Frankfurt Airport. So you come to Frankfurt Airport from almost every corner of the world. Once you have landed, you naturally want to get to the city centre as quickly as possible. Save yourself the expensive taxi and take the S-Bahn or a train. A ticket from the airport to downtown Frankfurt currently costs €4.90, regardless of whether you take the S-Bahn or a RE train. There are 2 train stations at Frankfurt Airport, namely the regional train station and the long-distance train station where ICE trains also stop. Both stations are within walking distance of Terminal 1. You can reach the main station and the city centre with the S8, S9 and RE trains, which depart from the regional station.

Arrival by ship

As is well known, Frankfurt is located on the Main and the Main flows into the Rhine at Mainz. So you can reach Frankfurt wonderfully by water. If you don’t have your own boat, you can of course also visit Frankfurt with a river cruise ship such as the A-Rosa Silva, the Elegant Lady or the Maxima. Furthermore, passenger ships of the Primus Line, or Cologne-Düsseldorfer also stop in Frankfurt.
