I was alsmost pulling my Hair out. I’ve opened a Paper Trading Account at Interactive Brokers quite a while ago. I’ve never really used it, because there was no Market Data after logging into TWS. So today I’ve decided to try to figure it out again.
Everything actually worked, but I couldn’t see any Real Time Quotes. I logged into both Accounts, my Real Account and my Paper Trading Account, but just couldn’t find any setting that was causing this. So I’ve started a Chat with the IB Support and asked what I have to do to fix this.
The Problem was that I had to switch to the Classic Account Management Version. And there it is. All I had to do is go to Manage Account > Settings > Paper Trading. And there I had to checkmark “Share real-time market data subscriptions with paper trading account. Note that due to regulatory laws only one of these accounts can have an active session at any given time.”.
Finally it works.
BTW, the TWS stores all Settings in a Subfolder of */jts (I’m using Linux, so I don’t know where it is stored on Windows). Anyway I just copied everything from the Folder of the Real Account into the Folder of the Paper Trading Account and Voila, after logging into the Demo Account all the Settings from the Real Account were there. It would have taken me ages to manually set it up again, as I’m using two Monitors with a lot of Charts etc.
