How to transfer a Domain from Godaddy to Namecheap

Yesterday I’ve realized that this Domain was about to expire in a few days. Godaddy was my Registrar and I didn’t want to stay with Godaddy, since they are quite expensive.
I also have an Account at Namecheap, so I transferred my Domain to Namecheap.

Boy, this was so much easier and convenient than I thought. You simply use this Transfer Tool from Namecheap and enter the Domain which you already own and which is registered at Godaddy.

You have to checkmark the following:

  • I understand that I need to unlock the domain I want to transfer.
  • I understand that I need access to the admin email to confirm the transfer.
  • I understand that if I’m using a Privacy Protection service I need to turn it off.

At Godaddy you click on Manage Domain and then you have to click on “Get Authorization Code”.
The Authorization Code will be sent to you by Email. Enter the Authorization Code at Namecheap and you’re done.
You will have to confirm a few links that are sent to you by Email from Godaddy and Namecheap.
But that’s all. You don’t have to set up any DNS or stuff like that. It’s less than 5 Minutes of work.
